Although virtually everyone knew they were on their way, Denon has just made the AH-D7000s official. The AH-D7000s, which are a step up from the AH-D5000s, should be available in the middle of September.
Why are these headphones interesting? Well, in following the latest trends, the case will be made of Mahogany. In terms of specs, they should be similar to the D-5000s, but with a better driver: 50mm Neodymium drivers, 25Ω impedance, 108dB/mW sensitivity, and a frequency range of 5-45,000Hz.
It should cost around 800€ when it's released, which is about $1,180.48 in the US.
(there's some bigger pics after the jump)

by Mark Brezinski

Denon recently announced some new active noise-cancellers: the AH-NC732. Word on the street is they'll be able to cancel out up to 99% of external noise for 40 hours on a single AAA battery. They'll also feature 40mm Neodymium drivers, a frequency response spanning 5Hz to 28 kHz, a 40Ω impedance, and a sensitivity of 105dB.
These headphones will be available in Japan towards the start of August, and will be priced at $350 US dollars. No word yet on if/when it'll head our way.

Denon AH-C351 review retrospective

by Mark Brezinski
We just finished our review of the Denon AH-C351 headphones, and we have the following to say: these headphones are great for their intended market. This market I'm referring to are people who are sick of crappy packed-in headphones, but don't necessarily want to go out and spend a ton of money on headphones. That means audiophiles or anyone serious about their music probably won't think very much of these, since they really don't offer the best audio quality. Of course, at $50, you really don't expect the best audio quality either.
We like open and shut cases, and the AH-C351s definitely fall into that category. If you've read this very brief synopsis and seem interested, then they're a good buy. If you're looking for home theater cans, then you should probably look elsewhere.

D&M Holdings up for auction
|
Added on 2008-04-17 08:37:00
by Mark Brezinski
D&M Holdings is currently up for auction, and the two top bidders are Kenwood and Best Buy. If this news hasn't set off alarm bells, it's probably because the name "D&M Holdings" didn't set off any bells. As illustrated in the JPEG to the right, D&M Holdings encompasses quite a few big names in headphones, such as Marantz, McIntosh, Boston Acoustics, Snell, Escient, Calrec, and, most notably, Denon. If you hurry and scrape about 700 million bucks together, you too can own your very own conglomerate of headphones manufacturers.
We found out this news via a post on Audioholics.com, who brought up an interesting point: if Best Buy wins the auction, will Denon be slapped with all the negative connotations usually associated with "selling out"? Will Denon be seen as "mainstream" and lose some of their appeal in the hardcore crowd? We're not sure if the music analogy carries over to the realm of headphones, but we definitely know a few audiophiles who simply refuse to step foot under a big yellow tag.
In any case, we'll be following the fate of Denon closely, so check back if you too are concerned. If you don't, Denon will know you don't really care -- show some support!
