The Sennheiser MX W1 headphones are a set of wireless in-ears. They are the first pair of wireless in-ears we've reviewed. Since they use wireless technology, don't expect the best audio quality: sound has to be compressed in order to stream from your transmitter to the ear piece smoothly. This results in some low-end distortion, but not as much as we had expected to see.

Also, just because they're wireless doesn't mean they're the best choice for the morning commute. These headphones are actually slightly less portable than the average set of in-ears because their transmitter has to strap on to your media player, adding girth. Due to the way the headphones fit in your ear, they don't create much of a seal, which will allow lots of ambient noise to spoil your playback. Another consequence of the design is that the headphones aren't particularly comfortable.

If you really value the freedom that wireless connectivity grants you, then you can pick up the Sennheiser MX W1s for $499.95.

Section The Good The Bad
Tour & Design Light-weight, compact design.
Looks like you're wearing two Bluetooth headsets. Charging issues.
Performance Good max volume, not bad for wireless headphones.
"Not bad for wireless headphones" means they're not good.
In Use Wireless connectivity frees you from the strict constraints of cords. Portable. Lots of power adapters.
Not particularly comfortable, not many customization options.
Value & Comparisons We look forward to later, less expensive iterations of
$500.
