Who's It For
Audiophile
Audiophiles care more about audio quality than portability, meaning the 6isolators might not be a good pick; more expensive headphones have the edge in performance.
Portable User
Portable users should love these headphones. They're a good price, and should be very high up on their list when comparison shopping.
Airplane Traveler
In-ear headphones are typically great for airplane travelers, since they offer noise isolation without needing a battery. Add in their portability, and their relative comfort even at six hours or more, and you have a set of headphones that should please any jetsetter.
Home / Office Use
Really, the 6isolator headphones have too short a cable to be used in a home theater setup. Additionally, their sound quality won't be as good as a set of over-ear headphones. These would really only be good if you're only after a discreet listening experience, and then only if you have a ton of extension cable lying around your house. Otherwise, the 6isolators just aren't practical.
Conclusion
The Etymotic Research 6isolator headphones are definitely a pair of in-ears to consider. They come with good sleeve options, a great case to help them be even more portable, and cleaning gear to help maintain audio quality. Audio quality was decent; there will be some distortion, and the tracking was a bit erratic, but that's what you get with sound elements this small.
Again, their main low point is their cable, which will hold a serpentine series of kinks for a long time if you don't actively try to straighten it out, and which could snap fairly easily. If you don't mind a crinkled cord, however, the 6isolators are a great pair of portable headphones.
