Introduction
The DT 990 PRO headphones are a set of over-ears from Beyerdynamic. The DT 990 PPROs are open-backed headphones, which literally means the back of the ear cups aren’t totally covered with plastic. Open-back headphones make your playback to sound like you have a set of free-standing speakers right by your head, rather than echoing out at you from an enclosed space. Of course, the downside to this airy audio quality is you’ll be able to hear everything happening around you and everyone around you will hear your music. Therefore, the DT 990 PROs should really only be used indoors. They’re comfortable, have a long cord, and also come with a 1/4-inch adapter, all of which make the DT 990 PROs a great set of at-home headphones.
The DT 990 PROs had excellent sound quality. They aren’t dynamic headphones, meaning they won’t boost the bass or otherwise affect the levels of certain frequencies. The DT 990 PROs also had very minimal distortion. The flat frequency response and incredibly low distortion mean these headphones are good for purists who want to listen to exactly what was recorded.
The DT 990 PROs have an MSRP of $300, but you should be able to find them around $260 online.
