Introduction Introduction
The ATH-W5000s are a super high-end option from Audio-Technica. The ear cups are made from striped ebony wood and the ear cups are lambskin. Looking at these headphones, it's easy to tell they're for people that are serious about audio.

Interestingly enough, the ATH-W5000s didn't perform particularly well on our audio tests. They had some issues with their high end, mostly.

Part of the problem likely lies with the ATH-W5000s' fit. Every head in our office found these headphones to be overly large with no way to fix it. Because of this, each user found the tops of the ear cups didn't sit against his or her head. This could be the root of the problems we saw with audio quality.

The ATH-W5000s are currently available for about $1000.

Section The Good The Bad
Tour & Design Tour & Design • Classy. • Band might look a bit silly.
Sound Quality Sound Quality • Low distortion. • Issues with the high end.
Isolation Isolation • Capable of a high decibel output without suffering from distortion. • Doesn't isolate well at all, but this shouldn't really affect them as a set of at-home headphones.
Tour & Design Comfort • Very comfortable, even after a long wear session. • They feel big, fit issues likely hurt the headphones' test scores.
Tour & Design Usability • Easy to disassemble and maintain. • No cleaning tools and the pads are super annoying to fit back on.
Tour & Design Conclusion • Unique sound and great looks. • Not really impressive on paper (unless that paper is a receipt, but even then we're not sure "impressive" is the right word).
